Why?

Mark 11:3 If anyone says to you, “ Why are you doing this?” say, “ The Lord is need of it”, and immediately he will send it.

After three years of ministry the time had come for Jesus to fulfill His ministry by going to the cross. On His way there He first made His triumphal entry into the city fulfilling prophecy by riding on the colt of a donkey. Jesus did not own a donkey, so He sent His disciples to retrieve one for Him to ride on. The disciples were instructed to go into a certain village and bring the donkey from there. I would imagine the disciples were concerned what someone would say if they took the animal. Jesus said if anyone asks you the reason for fetching the donkey, to tell them He needed it, and that would be enough.

There are well meaning people who are surprised by the way you live your life as a Christian. They see you trusting in the Lord and taking steps of faith and they wonder, “Why are you doing that?” They don’t know that it’s the Lord who gave you the command to step out. They don’t know how you prayed over the decision or how the Lord confirmed it through His Word. It’s okay. As long as you know the Lord has need of it, or that the Lord has asked you to do it, they may understand later on.

What has God asked you to do, that for all practical purposes, may look impossible? Hold on to whatever the Lord has spoken to you in private. Don’t doubt His promise, even if others do. And don’t hold it against them if they don’t agree, because the Lord revealed it to you and not to them. You be obedient and do the will of the Lord.
