From Blindness to Sight

Mark 10:49 “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.”

Every day he sat by the side of the road in total darkness. He could hear sounds and feel a touch, but he could not see. Bartimaeus was blind. His days were filled with begging for money hoping that someone would be compassionate and generous. But one day everything changed. He heard the noise of a large crowd gathering. One of the voices he heard said that Jesus of Nazareth was coming. Immediately he began to shout at the top of his lungs, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” The crowd attempted to silence him, but he only shouted louder. Suddenly Jesus stopped, stood still, and called for him. Bartimaeus got up, threw aside his beggars garment, and made his way to Jesus. In that moment Jesus healed Bartimaeus, and for the first time he could see. The Bible says after he received his sight Bartimaeus followed Jesus on the road.

I can relate to Blind Bart. Although I wasn’t physically blind I was spiritually blind. Blinded by sin and living in darkness. Like a beggar with no hope for the future. But then Jesus came into my life showed me mercy and opened my eyes. And today by His grace I am following Him on the road. I once was blind but now I see. How about you? Would you like to have your eyes opened? “Be of good cheer. Rise He is calling you.”
