Don’t You Care?

Teacher do you not care that we are perishing? Mark 4:38

The disciples questioned the concern of Christ in the midst of a storm. The waves were rising, water was filling the boat, and the wind was howling. It seemed at any moment they would all die. Meanwhile Jesus was asleep. They were straining while He was resting. Fear took over and doubt set in. If Jesus really cared He would do something wouldn’t He?

In the midst of a storm comes a revelation. First a revelation of what’s inside of me. Fear, anxiety, anger, frustration can come pouring out when we’re soaking wet and fighting for our lives. When things become painful we wonder, where is God anyway? Yet in the storm there is also a revelation of the power of God if we will turn to Him. Once the disciples cried out to Jesus He stood up rebuked the wind and the sea and brought calm. Then He asked the disciples a question. “Why are you so fearful? How is it that you have no faith?”

It’s a question at times we all need to answer. Why am I doubting? Hasn’t the Lord been faithful? The answer is, “Yes!” Therefore I can trust that He will remain faithful for He cannot deny himself. Hang in there! You will get to the other side.
